Green Energy Efficient Home Community:
ARMORY PARK DEL SOL
Located in downtown Tucson, colorful Armory Park del Sol finds its architectural inspiration in the surrounding nationally-designated historic neighborhood of Armory Park. Armory Park del Sol homes incorporate historic elements from the Victorian, Mission Revival, Territorial and Bungalow styles of the period. The gracious porches, dramatic arches and contrasting details found in the state-of-the-art masonry homes mirror the lovely historic homes nearby. Each home has a distinct personality.

Armory Park del Sol is a pilot project of the US Department of Energy's Zero Energy Homes program. Combining the latest energy-efficient construction techniques and appliances with renewable energy systems such as solar water heating and solar power, Zero Energy Homes are an attempt to achieve net-zero energy consumption from the utility provider. Most homes here average an impressive $61 per month in utility costs with the (first) Net Zero Home coming in at around $10 per month (that includes the regular $5 hookup fee).
Green Home Community:
CIVANO -- TUCSON’S PREMIERE ENERGY EFFICIENT VILLAGE
Civano is an 820 acre premiere energy efficient green community located in the Southwest area of Tucson along the Houghton Road Corridor. It includes a mixed-use neighborhood center, a variety of energy-efficient residential homes, recreation areas, pocket parks, a community garden, pools, tennis courts, sports park, walking and bike paths and substantial open space preservation.

Civano's village design blends the best ideas from the most successful towns of yesterday with the technology of today. Civano is a pedestrian friendly neighborhood that reduces the need for cars.

Civano is the first large, mainstream community to integrate sustainability as a key characteristic of the community.

BUILDING COMMUNITY

Civano is about building community; about connecting with one another. It is the subtle blending of people, residences and the existing desert environment.

SUSTAINABILITY

Energy efficient green features include active and passive solar, reclaimed water usage for outdoor areas, water harvesting, high performance windows, increased insulation, high efficiency HVAC systems and attention to indoor air quality due to the air-tightness of the construction of the homes. The Civano green homes reduce the energy costs for heating and cooling by at least 50% over the standard built home.

ENERGY SAVING FEATURES AT CIVANO

Standard energy saving features at Civano include:
  • Superior insulation in ceilings and walls
  • Sealed and leak tested ductwork
  • High performance low-e windows
  • High efficiency heating and cooling systems

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

It is close to schools, shopping, food stores, recreational areas, national parks, bike trails, and major employment areas such as Raytheon and the Science and Technology Park.
